Flick it and it spins freely through a 400-row spreadsheet. Slow down and it clicks back into precision. I don’t need the reviews for this one: the same wheel has lived under my finger for years, and it is still the best thing on my desk.
The upgrades are the quiet kind
Quieter clicks, a haptic ring under the thumb, and the same full-palm shape my hand already trusts. Nothing revolutionary, and the only thing wrong with mine is that it’s worn.
It tracks on everything
Glass table, cafe marble, jeans on a train. My 3 already goes everywhere with me; the 4 does the same with a sensor and a battery that weren’t designed in 2019.

Whether the haptic ring is genuinely useful or just a gimmick is something I can only judge after using it daily; on paper it’s unproven either way.

Is the haptic ring worth anything, or is it a gimmick?
I won’t know until I’ve used it daily, but on paper it’s a small confirmation click for gestures rather than anything load-bearing. I’m buying this for the wheel and the shape, the ring is a bonus.
Is it worth upgrading from an MX Master 3 that still works fine?
Not urgently. Mine still works, this is a want, not a need; if your 3 is happy I’d wait for a sale rather than rush it.
Will this work for gaming if I don’t want a separate gaming mouse?
Not really, no. The Basilisk exists for a reason; the MX Master line optimises for productivity and comfort, not for competitive tracking or click latency.
