This is my next GPU.

Photo to come

The GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition, ₹4,22,999.

32GB of VRAM is the number that matters to me. My 3070 runs out of memory before it runs out of ideas.”

01

32GB is the wall I keep hitting, not the clock speed

My 3070 has 8GB, and I feel that ceiling constantly: local models that won’t load, textures that get swapped instead of rendered, projects I have to close before opening the next one. The 5090’s 32GB of GDDR7 isn’t about higher frame rates, it’s about not hitting a wall mid-task.

02

It’s the Founders Edition specifically

I’d rather have Nvidia’s own compact dual-slot design and blower-adjacent cooling than a triple-slot partner card that barely fits my case. The FE is smaller, it’s the reference design everyone else is measured against, and I don’t need extra RGB to be happy with it.

03

Five years is a long time to run one card

The 3070 has been in my desktop since it launched, and it still owes me nothing. I want the 5090 to be the same kind of decision: pay once at the top of the stack, and not think about upgrading again for years.

ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090, if you want a quieter, better-cooled partner card and don’t care about matching Nvidia’s own reference design.

If you buy through that link I earn a small commission. It costs you nothing and keeps the picks independent. I accept long-term review units; they never buy the pick, and I say so when a unit was loaned.

Worth asking

Isn’t this a huge upgrade from a 3070?

Yes, and that’s the point. I skipped two full generations on purpose so the jump would actually solve the VRAM problem instead of just nudging it.

Why the Founders Edition instead of a cheaper partner card?

Most partner cards at this tier are triple-slot and long enough to cause clearance problems. The FE’s size and cooling are the reference for a reason, and I’d rather pay for that than for a bigger heatsink and RGB I don’t need.

Is 32GB overkill for gaming?

For gaming alone, probably. I’m buying it for the local model and creative work I already do on my 3070 until it runs out of memory, same as the RAM logic behind my laptop pick.

That’s my pick, not advice. For the GPU I’d recommend to most people, see whatismynext.in →
